Recycle Games

Do you have an Atari 2600 or Coleco Vision game console that you want to get rid of? What about a Sega Genesis? Probably not. These systems are extremely rare these days. If you have a gaming console or video games made within the last decade that you don't use, why not make money by selling them! Let's work on eliminating electronic waste! The game console figures for US sales in April 2010 for gaming manufacturers were:
  • Nintendo DS 440,800 units (Total: $41.7 million in revenue; April 2009: 1,040,000 units sold, down 58%)

  • Nintendo Wii 277,200 units (Total: $28.8 million in revenue; April 2009: 340,000 units sold, down 18%)

  • Microsoft Xbox 360: 185,400 units (Total: $19.9 million in revenue; April 2009: 175,000 units sold, up 6%)

  • Sony PS3: 180,800 units (Total: $12.3 million in revenue; April 2009: 127,000 units sold, up 42%)

  • Sony PSP: 65,500 units (Total: $17.3 million in revenue; April 2009: 116,000 units sold, down 44%)

So What is E-Waste? E-waste is a popular, informal name for electronic products nearing the end of their "useful life." Computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, copiers, and fax machines are common electronic products. Many of these products can be reused, refurbished, or recycled. Unfortunately, electronic discards is one of the fastest growing segments of our nation's waste stream.

Recycle Cellphones

Like those of us here at (P)Fusion Intellect, we've all had an extra cellphone or two over our lifetime which sat in a box somewhere or in the trunk of a car. If you have an additional cellphone that works why not recycle it and make some money? The cellphones are serviced and either prepped for resell at a discounted rate to people who can use it or recycled. It does not end up in a land fill to further pollute the earths environment. Let's work on eliminating electronic waste! There are over 100 million cell phones sold in the United States alone each year. Worldwide that number more than tripples to greater than 300 million new cellphone purchases. Where are the old cellphones going? Regardless of the phones namebrand (Nokia, Samsung, LG, Motorola, Blackberry, HTC, etc), most cellphones contain the same or similar parts. So, even if your phone was dropped in the salty waters of the Pacific Ocean and does not work, recycle it anyway! There are parts on electronic devices which can be refurbished if the entire unit is damaged. You may even feel good about not keeping electronic clutter around the house. Get rid of the cellphones you don't use and make money doing it.

Recycle Computers

Okay, so now that you've purchased the latest Netbook and found that it was extremely slow, so you decide to purchase an iPad. Then you find that the iPad is just an oversized iPhone, so now you're stuck with two computers that you truly can't use nor can you give them away! Thought about recycling? I have to admit, those of us here at (P)Fusion Intellect are technology geeks, engineers and programmers who just so happen to want the earth to stick around for a while. Electronic waste pollutes our global environment beyond any measureable scale. The solution in our digital age is not to eliminate technology, but to use less of it. Consumers around the world (young and old) tend to buy things that they want right then instead of getting something for the long term. We must present alternatives to buy and throw away (trash), thus reuse and recycle is a key concept to implement in our daily lives. Since the global market is literally littered with very cheap computer systems which will not last longer than three years we can expect a rise is electronic waste exponentially into the future. Hundreds of millions of computers throughout the world could end up in land fills if we are not serious about protecting our environment. This is why reuse and recylce is so important. Get rid of the computers, laptops, iPads, Netbooks, PC's and Apple systems you don't use and make money doing it.

Recycle Electronics

All electronics give off some amount of radiation. The computer monitor/tv screen you are using to view this website emits energy waste which is referred to as radiation. If a person is looking down on earth from space while all electricity is terminated simultaneously this person would see residiual energy signatures (radiation/energy waste)throughout the surface of the planet. We're not talking about solar radiation either.

Electromagnetic radiation is something we are all familiar with although most people don't call it that. If you listen to the radio, use a microwave oven to heat up food, use a cellphone, computer, watch television, use bluetooth devices (the list goes on) then you are being exposed to electromagnetic radiation. So how much electronic waste is there in the world? No one knows an exact number, however with the amount of buy and trash consumers are involved in every year we know that hundreds of millions of electronics are put into landfills each year worldwide. The IT research company Gartner projects worldwide PC shipments will reach 376.6 million units in 2010, a 22-percent increase from the 308.3 million units shipped in 2009. Total spending is expected to reach $245.4 billion in 2010, up 12 percent from 2009. The home PC market is projected to grow 29.5 percent this year, while professional PC sales will rise 13.1 percent. According to a research analyst at Gartner "The average selling price (ASP) of mobile PCs was $732 in the first quarter of 2010, a 15.7 percent decline from the first quarter of 2009, when the ASP was $868," Kitagawa said in a statement. "The ASP for mobile PCs is expected to stabilize as sales into the professional market will grow, resulting in slightly higher ASPs compared to consumer mobile PCs."

Can We Risk Continued Contamination Of Our Waters?

Think about it for a moment. What resource on our planet can no living organism do without? Yes, of course, water. Instead of polluting our waters, lets work to keep them clean. Reduce consumption of products that you don't need and think about a way to Reuse it or Recycling the items by means of donation or selling it for some extra cash. Why not do all three and make it a habit to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle the gadgets that usually end up in the garage or in the trash bin. Water Resources

Life As We Know It Is Changing.

As the climate changes throughout the world humans continue to consume any and everything we can get our hands on. The problem results from the over consumption of food when millions of Americans get diabetes or other health related diseases from consuming harmful products. The same result occurs with our planet from our over indulgences in technologies and fossil fuels (petroleum/oil). Although 70% of our planet is covered by water we (humans) have a limited supply of drinking water. In fact, in some parts of the world there are no resources for clean water thus desalination (reverse osmosis) technologies are more important than ever before. Without clean water, famine (food shortage), disease, war and poverty are some of the horrific outcomes. It is important to keep these perspectives when we think about what to do with the items we consider to be trash. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle daily.
